5 ways to use your Nokia N95 in business

While I am waiting for my Nokia N95, I might as well visualize how I would use the phone in a business situation. Work takes up quite a portion of my life, so my phone needs to be as much an assist as possible.

5 Ways of optimizing the use of the Nokia N95 in business:
[by the way, some of these applications are non-free software, but you might charge your boss for this, as positive contributions to workflow optimization]

  1. Answering Machine
Instead of using your provider’s voicemail service, why not keeping things on the phone itself with third party answering machine software:
Answering Machine for Nokia S60 3rd EditionAnswering Machine offers dozens of easy to use function to record voice messages, to play greetings messages and to organize recorded messages. Additionally there are plenty of useful status information existing. A global icon indicates that Answering Machine is activated on the device.
Overview of the functions of Answering Machine: Record voice messages, Play greeting messages, Organize recorded messages, Status information, Global indicator, Configuration of volume, Define storage drive, Time and Date of Message, Number of caller, Name of caller, Delete messages and Compress messages.

  2. Remember faces
Whether you need this depends on how many business contact you have of course, but is fun and practical to have the picture of a business contact showing up when you receive a call. Asking a picture for this purpose will have to become part of your get-to-know talk, but it might be appreciated.
There are 2 options for this:

    • SkyeCaller - Full Screen Caller DisplaySkyeCaller - Full Screen Caller Display
Skyecaller allows you Full Screen Caller Display
The smartest looking caller-image display software available
      Easy to use
Set an image to a contact
Incoming & outgoing calls will display contact image and details on full screen
Incoming & outgoing text messages will display contact image and details on full screen

    • Best Full Screen Caller for S60 3rd
Best Full Screen Caller for S60 3rd editionDo you want to see a person who is calling you more clearly and in details? Well, use Best Full Screen Caller and your wish will be granted! Best Full Screen Caller can show you the big picture of a person when you are receiving a phone call if this person is stored in your contacts database!
Best Full Screen Caller allows associating a big picture with each contact, group or even unknown caller. To set the picture, click Picture in the main view of the application, select the contact or the group and set the picture for them using menu item Select picture.
Flexible layout options of Best Full Screen Caller allow customizing the appearance of the screen shown during the call.

Comparing these 2 options, I see that the second one has a few more settings options, but the possibility of SkyeCaller to also add a picture to an incoming SMS is a plus too.

  3. Bluetooth business card exchange
Make sure you have your own contact details up-to-date in your phone… more and more I see people around me exchanging their digital business cards by Bluetooth.
  4. Business card Scanner
For those business contacts of yours that are yet digitally evolved to the point of bluetooth exchange, use your N95’s camera to make a picture of their business card. Best option would be to have an application like SonyEricsson’s P990i has, with which the phone extract the contact details from the taken business card picture…
If anybody has a link to a S60 application for this, please share.
  5. Editing documents
Just take a look at this set-up from Symbian Freak:
    Nokia N95 + Nokia SU-8W
This set-up together with Quick Office, you will be able to work on Word, PowerPoint or Excel files without the need for a bulky laptop or computer!

Many more possibilities  for the Nokia N95 in business I guess, so:

What functionality of the N95 do you use in business?

According to the Nokia website the current version of the keyboard, SU-8W, isn’t compatible to the N95. Does this photo show that they only have to update their specs on the site or that there’s going to be a new version? I mean - how exactly does it fit in there, it does seem to kind of float…

BTW - over 100€ seems a bit much for a keyboard, even if one can fold it, don’t You think?

In a phone that size an optical zoom is just physically impossible as long as we don’t have some Goa’uld like morphing technology. :-)

Just remember what Nokia had to do to offer such a feature in the N93, the lenswork went once through the whole camera. Still, someday soon we’ll probably look back and laugh at the phones of today no matter what…

    Thanks for this loziju!

At this moment I guess it is the only option. What I am actually looking for is an option does does not need interference of a third party.
    Click, snap, save…

    It will come. :P
