If the following pictures from Slash Gear are for real, then I am sorry for my previous post on this matter.
As it seems, the Nokia N95 8 GB is indeed a fact:
Following on from our news of the 8GB black Nokia N95 supposedly coming soon, a commenter on that post pointed us in the direction of this far clearer (and real-life) photo of the new N95.
Unfortunately there’s no indication of who took the photo, where it was taken and even in what country. Remember, while the US writes dates in the MMDDYYYY format, Europe uses DDMMYYYY and so that could make a big difference (May versus July) in when the N95 was actually spotted.
What this does confirm is that the 8GB version exists, although other rumours regarding the omission of GPS are still unconfirmed.
The reason that I am not jumping with joy yet and still not convinced, is that there is not much info on the picture and to me, this picture (especially if you look at the original format) does look like it is being Photoshopped:
- At the top of the slider, it has this slight blurry effect around the edges
- The basis of the phone does not seem to be black, it seems to have the glow of the plum colored version N95
- Why is the whole screen darkened too? This is the regular stand-by screen, but all text is very hard to read, including the text of the soft-keys.
- If this would be the design, why is the keypad without any contrast? Black figures on a black keypad?
Aargh! My gut-feeling says something is fishy… and these rumors are killing me!
No they are not, but Nokia, Please!

Unfortunately there’s no indication of who took the photo, where it was taken and even in what country. Remember, while the US writes dates in the MMDDYYYY format, Europe uses DDMMYYYY and so that could make a big difference (May versus July) in when the N95 was actually spotted.

Can anybody spot where this picture (originally) was taken?
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 10:47 am ¶It is a fake and there are several things wrong with this picture:
- the plum glow near the hand
- the sharpness of the background is too uniform for a closeup image
- for a close up image the imagedistortion is not right. There should be some perspective curvature somewhere in the image
- the text 8 GB is not right, in angle, perspective and ambient reflected light
But most of all, Nokia would not make black on black letters on the keypad. They would make it white on black for readability. It is obvious a fake.
And hey, what’s that black wire in his hand. The new remote powersupply?
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 12:43 pm ¶I dont know about you but to me the black one does not look as nice as the current silver one.
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 9:00 pm ¶Stinks of a fake! A black keyboard? You could hardly see that in the daytime! Although one day soon the N95 will surely have a successor.
Posted 10 Jul 2007 at 12:59 am ¶The backplate is plum.
As was already said, there would be no black on black keypad.
It would furthermore be stupid for it to be labeled “Nokia N95 8GB” on the front of the unit.
Fake.
The black media and menu keys are the worst.
Posted 10 Jul 2007 at 5:01 am ¶This photo was shot in Paris, during the Nokia Experience Days, an event for journalists. The black N95 is still under NDA and will be available in september, housing 8 Gb flash memory and all the current N95 features (including GPS).
Posted 10 Jul 2007 at 10:58 pm ¶No price given for the moment.
EngagdetMobile has the following pictures up, but with irregularities all over (dark/light letters, different names…) still fishy.

Posted 11 Jul 2007 at 8:41 am ¶Anyone can demontage their N95 and paint it with a spraycan. What’s new?
Posted 11 Jul 2007 at 3:01 pm ¶I would however go for an all black N95. The silver buttons are so very ugly.
For me it has to be a fake but…
(if it was real)
Posted 12 Jul 2007 at 12:56 am ¶The black numbers, these would light up, the reason they are black is because they are on standby (screensaver). The N95’s keys have no light when they are on standby.

Posted 12 Jul 2007 at 7:52 pm ¶Darn… that thing is ugly!
Posted 12 Jul 2007 at 8:47 pm ¶look at the picture carefully the slider is skidded up and the screen is lighted up so the keypad should also be lighted up but its not.so the second picture is also a fake.
Posted 13 Jul 2007 at 3:32 am ¶The lights are not always enabled during operation of the N95. In high level light conditions, the keypad will not be lit.
I’m not saying I believe in the black N95, I’m just saying you can hold a flashlight to the light sensor in a dark room, and your keypad will go off. The screen gets brighter when there’s more light as well.
Real or not, I think it looks horrible.
Posted 13 Jul 2007 at 4:20 am ¶i think it is very make sense only if the battery life can be extended. no point you can listen to so many hours of music but the battery is dead in 3 hrs. its just stupid this bloody good phone have such a short battery life.
