Fring for S60

Tommi over at S60bogs points out Fring.

fring™ is a mobile application that allows you to make mobile calls and send instant messages (chat) to other fring users and PC-based VoIP services such as Skype and Google Talk at no extra cost beyond your existing data plan. fring calls cost nothing extra because they utilize GPRS, 3G and Wi-Fi mobile internet connections.

And from this moment they have their service available for Symbian 9 (Series 60) operated devices:

As you might have guesses… fring for Symbian 9 is already here.

What’s in this version (2.71)?

  • Voice calls and chat over 3G and Wi-Fi
  • Skype and Google Talk integration (Voice and Chat)
  • History (Missed calls, Incoming/Outgoing calls)
  • Improved voice quality compared with previous versions

Note: The Nokia N80 and N80i have been fully signed by Nokia. All other handsets are still in process. Therefore, you will be able to use them (with additional “warning” screen during installation) and GUI might be somewhat offset.

Like the before mentioned iSkoot, this is another application/service that will allow for Skype calls from your N95. I think it is a good development, the more service like these pop up, the sooner this will be available without any hassle. Most probably Skype itself will get a piece of that market-pie!
