Lately I noticed how many of my friends were cursing their mobile phones’ battery life. I never really had any problems, but I follow 1 simple rule: I use my cellphone till it indicates that the energy level is almost zero. That way, the battery’s life is best secured and it will not get “lazy” quickly.
Being curious, I found the following helpful tips to extend your mobile phone’s battery life:
- Turn off your Bluetooth | Not just for security reasons, but mainly because Bluetooth (still) has the nasty characteristic of draining your batteries
- Display settings | With higher resolution and in general higher quality displays comes a higher energy usage. So if you have the option, optimize your power-saver and light time-out settings
- Minimize gaming | Oh well, this is just if you can resist that addictive game you have on your phone. But if you can, minimize your gaming, as it asks for a lot of energy (both visually and in sound)
- Close unused applications | Even if you have an idle program in the background, it will use energy… so just close it.
- Turn off your InfraRed port | Does anybody still uses this? If so, keep it to a minimal!
- [optional] Turn your phone off if you do not use it | I personally will not do this, but for some people this is the ultimate battery saver.
This is maybe contradictional with a phone that I will use to the max, so personally I will stick to my golden rule.
How do you manage your mobile phone’s energy?
