| So, there we go. I am writing this post from my Apple keyboard o my Nokia N95… using Wavelog.Still have to get used to the different workflow while writing a post, did not read any manual in order to test how it works “out of the box”. No idea what will happen with what I insert “down” or “right”, as the two options mention.Okay, enough text for now. Will edit this further later on. |
So, the above written was posted from my Nokia N95.
The setup and usage of Wavelog is very simple. Now that I see the output, I am quite amazed. It puts the different objects (text, images) in a table structure, rather than simple markup.
Still, it is a simple and effective tool for blogging to WordPress or Drupal, as it very neatly uses XML-RPC to publish content. The picture added above was easily added, though I noticed that I could not access other folders than my gallery folder (too bad I keep my screenshots in another folder…).
Neither could I add categories (only general), nor tags…
Anyhow. Wavelog does open up possibilities and with future adjustments will be a good onboard blogging tool for the Nokia N95 and other phones.
I say onboard, as there is of course also a mobile admin plugin for WordPress… to use in a mobile browser.
Some screenshots uploaded from my Mac:

In case you have not heard from her yet, here is your chance to get to know our fellow mobile blogger Darla Mack.
XpertMobile has put up a great interview with the Mobile Diva, Darla Mack.
Funniest question with amazing answer:
Most of us already know that your favourite colour is pink, but what phones have you got/had in this colour?
Hmmm that’s a long list.
Nokia Classic N-Gage with Nokia OK OEM pink housing
Nokia 7210, 3650 - OEM Pink Housing
Nokia 5300, 6610, 6682, 6630 - Aftermarket pink housing
Nokia 6600 - Rose… which was more bronze than pink
Nokia N73 - Pink
Nokia N95 - Pink
Nokia 3595 Hello Kitty Edition - came in pink
I’ll say this… whatever phones that I’ve had I’ve always made sure there were pink customizations for it. I’m working on getting my E61i pink but after seeing the E65 I think I’ll wait for that.

Phil, of r3wind, posts videos on an almost daily basis, all shot with his Nokia N95.
I totally dig the design of his blog by the way… him being a Mac lover helps too.
Here is an example of one of his vids:

Wow! I am quite honored with this nice gesture from one of my blog’s readers:
I just received the following message through the contact form:
Hello there!
Loving the blog!
I’ve made you a Widset Widget
Message came from Garry and he pointed me to this page: Widsets (link will take you to the N95blog Widset Widget)
Looks great! Soon I will look into the Widsets Developer Toolkit, so I create some widgets myself…
Thanks Garry! Much appreciated! Now everybody can have easy access to N95blog on their S60 device!

nokiaWhile a storm (wind is hitting the windows with 125 KM/hr) is trying to blow me out of my house, I have updated the accessibility of N95blog.com.
I noticed in the statistics that there is a small quantity of visitors that uses a mobile browser. To ease the readability of the site on a mobile phone, I installed a little plug-in. WordPress-Mobile-Edition (by Alex King) should spot when a mobile browser is being used and immediately change the theme to a simple and text-only version of this site.
In Opera Mini, it looks like this:

Hope this sooths another group of visitors… If you have any problems while browsing this site, just comment here or give me a shout!

symbian 3rd editionOkay, I just put the idea of the iPhone aside, because Ortelius nicely pointed me the fact that it has no GPS… Okay, that is not the only reason.
Anyhow.
Now, I am exploring the ways in which I can blog from my N95:
- Nokia Lifeblogging [link] Okay, this looks kinda nice, but I must say that it makes me depending on Nokia, while I prefer direct contact (xmlrpc) with my blog.
- I came across YoMoBlog [link], but I must say that just giving away the username and password to your blog does not really give me a trusty feeling.
- Another option of course is to use the “post-by-mail” option some of the blogsoftwares offer, then you do not need any additional software: you simply use your (web)mail.
- There is a S60 specific piece of blogging software available, trialware, called PicoBlogger 3.1 [link via All about Symbian], but it requires yet another signup… with picoblogger. It seems to be able to blog to WordPress and other too though, I will digg into this.
- Phlog [link]is one service just like PicoBlogger.
- There is a WordPress plugin [link] that generates a separate “moblog” page
- But… KABLOG [link] seems to be the S60 software I am looking for!
And as they describe it, use of KABLOG should be really simple:
If you login to your WordPress account at e.g. http://thrust.wordpress.com/wp-login.php :
- In KABLOG’s “Setup User” user setup screen, enter your WordPress username and password.
- In KABLOG’s “Setup Host” host setup screen, enter in the “Full URL” field: http://thrust.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php
- Set “Blog Type” to “TypePad/MovableType” (WordPress supports many of the same features, for our purposes.)
- Launch “Select Blog” : If you’ve set up everything correctly, the name of your WordPress blog should appear in the “Target Blog” list– select the one you wish to target.
That’s all there is to it– post away!
Well, seeing this, it does look like the steps I take for setting up an account in my own desktop blog editor. The screenshots, as shown below, also seem to display a very user friendly interface. Only thing is that is does not YET seem to be available for S60 THIRD edition… bummer!
Does anybody have experience with blogging from a S60 powered phone?

nokiaYet another blog? Ehm, well, yes. But I write this blog out of love, love for a phone.
Although the Nokia N95 is yet to be released [Q1 of 2007] I cannot keep my mind from drooling about this phone. Well, phone. It is going to be a multimedia device with GPS incorporated and yes it is possible to make phone calls too!
Although there are some good sites that have a forum or product page dedicated to the N95, I could not find that personal and specials place for ONLY N95 information. So creating it myself is a nice way of spending my time waiting for its release. Side effect that I hop on the blogging bandwagon is nice too.
And No, I am not some kind of tech-chick, but I DO like to use my phone to the maximum, so I am always looking to find all the information available.
So, I hope you enjoy and share your pre-release-fun with me!
X,
Maxine
