nokia Fellow blogger Mads has written an interesting post about future changes to the way our mobile phones look and function.
Giving eight concept models from the Nokia labs.
Nokia Aeon
The Nokia Aeon might be the closest thing to today’s mobiles in this post. It looks just like a traditional mobile if it weren’t for the big touch screen that covers the full surface of the phone.

Just imagine what a big touch screen could do to your phone. A cluttered screen would be a thing of the past and the buttons on the phone could change depending on what you were doing right now. Start messaging and you get a full keyboard to write on, start gaming and get a game pad, etc.

nseriesDear all,
After quite a period of silence after the announcement of N95blog being for sale, I am happy to say that the blog has been sold and thus has found a new owner.
I wish Ahmed a lot of joy and all the best in his new position and trust that he will do his utmost to maintain the exposure and status of this blog.
I say Thank You to all readers and visitors of this blog for their contributions and feedback in the past year.
More information on the process of the sale and my experiences during the sale can be found in this post: “N95blog.com in retrospect: The Rise and Sale of a blog”
Signing off for now, hope that you give Ahmed feedback that he can use and keep on providing this blog with the N95 information and experiences that it needs!
Kindest regards and take care,
Jan

| So, there we go. I am writing this post from my Apple keyboard o my Nokia N95… using Wavelog.Still have to get used to the different workflow while writing a post, did not read any manual in order to test how it works “out of the box”. No idea what will happen with what I insert “down” or “right”, as the two options mention.Okay, enough text for now. Will edit this further later on. |
So, the above written was posted from my Nokia N95.
The setup and usage of Wavelog is very simple. Now that I see the output, I am quite amazed. It puts the different objects (text, images) in a table structure, rather than simple markup.
Still, it is a simple and effective tool for blogging to WordPress or Drupal, as it very neatly uses XML-RPC to publish content. The picture added above was easily added, though I noticed that I could not access other folders than my gallery folder (too bad I keep my screenshots in another folder…).
Neither could I add categories (only general), nor tags…
Anyhow. Wavelog does open up possibilities and with future adjustments will be a good onboard blogging tool for the Nokia N95 and other phones.
I say onboard, as there is of course also a mobile admin plugin for WordPress… to use in a mobile browser.
Some screenshots uploaded from my Mac:

s60Having been away from my Powerbook a few days, I was amazed by the N95 news that had filled my RSS reader.
Not spamming this blog with numerous “old news” posts, I put them together list-style:
- Iphone and Mobile News reviews the Nokia N95:
The N95 is certainly packed with features, but more isn’t necessarily better. The phone is large, its software seemed to run a bit slow at times, the build quality is not that good, battery life is poor and the GPS antenna was not as efficient as some. On contract it might be attractive, but SIM free it’s vastly overpriced.
- Tether your Nokia N95 to a Mac to Access the Net via Bluetooth:
I’ll show you how you can tether or connect your laptop or computer to your Nokia phone for internet connection via bluetooth. This is useful for accessing the internet on your Mac if there are no accessible WiFis in your area.
- FCC approves 3G version of Nokia N95:
The proposed 3G N95 will run on HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) networks currently being rolled out by AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S., but it only supports the 850MHz and 1900MHz bands used by AT&T; T-Mobile’s HSDPA network will use the 1700MHz band. It will use all four GSM bands for both U.S. and international networks.
- Black 8GB Nokia N95 hits FCC:

- Mail for Exchange 2.0 on Nokia S60:
* Support for accept/decline of received meeting requests.(Response–>Accept/tentative/Decline)
* Global Address List (GAL) lookup (Options > Company Directory)
* Task synchronization -server tasks are listed in the calendar.
* In device search - the search application on ESeries devices will search for content in Mail for Exchange emails synchronized to the device.
* Additional support for Nokia Nseries devices -MFE is compatible with Nokia N73, N76 and N95
- Nokia N95 reviewed by The CellFreak [funny]:
What’s the greatest phone ever? The iPhone. What’s the second greatest phone ever? Some would say the Nokia N95.
Here Noa gets to the bottom of what the Nokia N95 Smurfs, how well it Smurfs it; and other questions you were just Smurfing to have answered.
- Jaiku updated for S60:
- Live contact list
- See what your friends are up to right in your phone’s contact list
- Browse Jaikus from your contacts
- Browse the latest updates from your contacts, add comments
- Post Jaikus
- Post new Jaikus and have them instantly show up on the Web and in your friends’ phones
- Share presence
- Share your availability, location, and calendar publicly or with selected contacts only
Yup! Linky linky, enjoy the reading!

n95blog[from PR Newswire]
ESPOO, Finland, August 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Nokia today announced the Nokia N95 multimedia computer has been voted ‘the European Media Phone of the Year 2007-2008′ by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), Europe’s leading association for consumer electronics.
Commenting on the award, EISA praised the Nokia N95 as containing “practically every feature one could imagine in a mobile device.” Additionally, the award citation of the EISA jury goes on to say: “It’s no mere mobile phone and no mere status symbol. Pick up a Nokia N95 and you hold in your hands a state-of-the-art communication tool - the ideal way to remain permanently in touch and on track with the world that surrounds you.”
The judging panel cited Nokia N95 features such as GPS, 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and MPEG4 video capture of up to 30 fps. EISA also highlighted the device’s data access of up to 3.5 Mb/s, advanced web browser, Wi-Fi, microSD slot, and audio reproduction of multiple audio formats.
“The Nokia N95 has evidently raised the bar for mobile devices and we are thrilled to receive this accolade from consumer electronics magazines across Europe,” said Jonas Geust, head of Nokia Nseries Players Category, Multimedia, Nokia. “This award is an endorsement of the strategy behind Nokia Nseries - to bring to people’s hands high performance multimedia computers which make digital convergence a reality.”
Great news… I totally agree!

voxAfter reading this post over at S60 blogs, I thought it nice to try the latest version of Nokia’s Share Online.
This version 2.0 of the Share Online client now allows account creation with regular Flickr/Yahoo login, introduces tagging support including an on-device tag database, plus a few other improvements.
Note that when you install the update, the existing account settings for Flickr or Vox will be overwritten.
The following screenshots cover the installation and some sharing on Flickr.

I am about to change my dataplan to something where I probably make some more use of this… Lack of free wifi in many places really asks for that…
Only disadvantage I found in this application is that there is NO indication for the progress of the upload… it only shows the total amount of Mb to be uploaded, but does not show how long it takes to do so, nor how much left to upload.
What do you think of this application?

tipsMonday is always a good day for linking…
Nokia N95 top links from this weekend:
- Make ringtones for your N95 on a Mac using MP3Trimmer by The Nokia Blog
You can simply transfer an MP3 song to your phone and use it as a ringtone, but sometimes you don’t want the ringtone to start at the beginning. I personally use the chorus or the catchy part of a song. What I like about MP3 Trimmer is the ability to fine-tune when you want the ringtone to start or end frame by frame.
- In search of a Nokia N95… to get by N95search
I’m sure you have guessed by now that I am not writing this blog on where to buy an N95, rather, This blog is here to ask for a donation of a Nokia N95. A slightly outlandish and optimistic approach to acquiring an N95, Well I don’t have the money to actually buy one . . so I write a blog for one.
- First Live Pics of the US 3G Nokia N95 by Symbian-Guru
My dear readers, I present to you the first live pics of the US 3G N95. The first is of this redesigned backplate and camera area. You can see that they’ve removed the manual shutter and it looks like they actually recessed the camera, instead of just flattening it to the back of the device.

- SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian in private beta by Engadget
At this point, the beta’s focus is pretty limited — you’ve gotta be in the US and you need to be rocking a Nokia E65, N75, or N95. High speed data is obviously crucial here, and those three models happen to sport the prerequisite S60 plus WiFi — in the case of the E65 and N95 — or 3G, if you’ve gone the N75 route.
Yup, I guess that the Nokia N95 will keep making the headlines in the coming period.
