Newbie Question: Download my Videos from Nokia N95 8GB to my laptop?

tagged with:, , ,

I’m wondering if anyone can help me?

I’ve just brought the N95 8GB and I can’t download any of my videos to my laptop it just won’t accept them. I’ve even downloaded “realplayer” to my laptop as that’s the app on the phone but stil nothing. It will let me view the file but when I try and Copy, transfer, send the file it won’t work.

Has anyone had any problems with this before?

Any help would be great, thanks

Using “conversation” on Nokia N95

tagged with:, , ,

Fresh out of the Nokia Beta Labs:

Conversation is a messaging application that allows you to follow your conversations, organized by individual contacts. In addition, the application provides an easy way for replying to messages, and to continue the conversations.

After installation, the application will appear in your device as an application shortcut, and as a new tab in your Contacts application.

First impressions:

Looks alright and I like to see messages in a conversation format.
Still doesn’t have the look of a sleek and smooth application, but it is a great leap forward in messaging on S60.

What do you think?

Fring supports Twitter!

tagged with:, , , , ,

Great news from the Fring Blog:

fring has fully integrated twitter so now all you twitters can stay in touch with your twitting friends wherever you are and without paying for all those SMSs!

If youve been sleeping for the last few months and dont know what twitter is, click here :-)

So how can I become a fringing twitter?

The fun part about this integration is that you dont have to do anything to get it. Just open fring on your handset > go to Settings > Configure services > (scroll down) twitter should be there waiting and ready to go.

Once youve entered your Twitter credentials, you should have a new twitter contact added to your fring contact list. You can then update your followers and get updates from the people you follow directly from fring.

Weve made a little video to show you how it works:

While were here, I should also let you know that this server update also includes improved anti-spam filters for all Skype users out there. We hope that we managed to solve that issue now. (Let us know if not)

Happy fringing!

Contacts Browser Plugin and suggested future development

tagged with:, , , , ,

Ow, this is really a great plugin which will enhance your browsing experience in a very profound way. Read my additional suggestions for future development of this plugin at the end of this post.

So there you are browsing the web with your PC looking for

  • a place to eat,
  • a colleagues phone number, or
  • some cool ringtones to download.

With the help of modern search engines you find the contact information easily. So what do you do next? You grab your phone and start entering the number you have found manually to your contacts. After entering the information you probably call the restaurant to reserve a table or send an SMS to your colleague.

What if you could simply just click the number and select what you want to do?

Actually, you can. We have created a browser plugin and phone software package that lets you remote control your phone from your PC web browser. On the phone we have used the Mobile Web Server and Python for S60 as a platform. The browser functionality is implemented on top of GreaseMonkey plugin.

Example

Lets assume you want to book a table at Restaurant Zetor in Helsinki. First you find the web page, for example with Google search. Then you click the phone number, which brings up this pop-up.

Clicking the call-button will initiate the call. You can also edit the number prior to calling, hang up the call, send a SMS to the number, and add the number to your contacts.

Development of plugins like these are what we need… It seems so easy yet someone has to make the link between two separate entities. A very nice Job Nokia!

I hope that this get developed even further, cause I can think of a few other implementations:

  • Adding address details (starting point and point of arrival) to your Nokia Mapping software with 1 click
  • Adding emailaddresses and websites to contact details in your phone’s phonebook
  • Adding events to your calendar with 1 click…
  • Setting background images to your phone’s theme

Any other ideas? Developers… READ THIS! :D

Nokia Sports Tracker

tagged with:, , , , ,

I like to run and I like my iPod. Yet the iPod I own is a 2 year old iPod Photo and my running shoes are by Adidas.
So the option Nike + iPod could offer is no real option to track my running.

While gathering information on GeoTagging (will post about this as soon as I have enough info) I received a nice email from James Burland who pointed me to the Nokia Sports Tracker, which he used already in the car from home to work. He even sent me the resulting Google Earth map that shows the driven route, with markers for the fastest point, highest and lowest point. Will not disclose that map, might be confidential… :)

Customizable boot sequence for S60: Welcome application

tagged with:, , , ,

Welcome application on Nokia N95Tommi reports on a new S60 application that the latest S60 devices have in their standard config: Welcome application.

Now, latest Nokia S60 devices have a dedicated Welcome application, which provides a visible launching place for first-use applications, such as Setting Wizard, Data Transfer, and Tutorial. This “umbrella application” is automatically launched at the first bootup of the device.

Although it may not be the final solution for this option, it is a good start. Read the rest of the article and share with Tommi what you think can be different or better.

New S60 overview at S60.com

tagged with:, , , , , ,

New S60 UI demoThe guys over at S60.com re-did their S60 software overview page. It now sports some nice interactive part where you can check out the new S60 and see small demos of its main features:

  • Personalize [creating and changing themes, moving icons around]
  • Send [email with attachments, send video via MMS]
  • Organize [events from the web, synchronize with a PC]
  • Browse [browsing improved, keep up with RSS feeds]

I still think that they could emphasize a little on some of the additional applications that are there for download: Instead of mentioning just the possibility, a small demo would make way more impression.
