Light on the battery horizon? Unofficial 1000 mAh battery for Nokia N95

tagged with:, , , ,

On Robert Hall’s VOX blog I just read an article, mentioning a new battery for the Nokia N95, in which he considers the pros and cons:

Lets weigh the pros and cons quickly…the N95 is a superb device packed with features that seems impossible to get through an entire day actually using the features, unless you are walking with your charger and have that option. You can purchase an additional battery….(but when do you get the chance to charge the drained one? during the night…but wont that leave the other one about halfway drained after use?) Or you can purchase the unofficial battery.

The good side of this is that this retailer/manufacturer seems to be 1. gaining popularity and 2. reputable 3. the battery is not extremely expensive.

Extended Battery 1000 mAh For The Nokia N95Robert is going to try this. I am not not sure what to think of this: In the past there have been too many horror stories related to non-official manufacturers and I simply to not want to risk a burnt cheek… so although it is very tempting, it is something I literaly do not want to burn my fingers on, let alone the risk of damaging my own N95. :|

If you decide to try this, go ahead and do this at own risk and if possible, share your findings in the comments.

[correction: this seems to be a 1000mAh battery…]

The current BL-5F battery is 950mAh.

How much good is 50 mAh going to do me when 950 can’t get me through the day?

Not enough to risk the side of my face either.

I have that unofficial “1000mAh”. I have charged and swapped it with the original battery five or six times now and I’m pretty damn sure it has LESS capacity than the official one. It serves a purpose though: it nestles in my wallet and only cost £6.

You know as much as i like longer battery life, still i wont risk my $750 phone for unofficial battery.
Certainly would be interesting in knowing how it goes!

All we do know is that the phone does suffer from poor battery life. Calls aren’t too bad but GPS, especially voice nav will kill a fully charged battery in a little over an hour. Taking pictures and video are also big drainers.

thats indeed a critical point antony. ive used the n95 for gps, and within the hour it’s (almost full) battery quit on me. and that at the time i most needed it. unfortunatly my car (old clio) didn’t have a lightercharge thingy. so back to the old map navigating through road signs…

n95 is a subzero cool phone, but don’t rely on it too much i would say.. unless you got a better battery - or backup battery - or a diffrent kind of an charge device.

I’d really like to know if someone is working on a truly extended battery. A humpback type deal from back in the days when we didn’t have battery covers on Nokias… it would require a little effort in designing a battery cover that would allow for more room… perhaps a battery cover wouldn’t be necessary at all? Maybe it could clamp in there without the use of a cover while still looking good. A 2700+ mAh battery IS possible… Someone needs to get on it.

As we all know, there’s a REALLY good market for something like this. I’d imagine half the users out there would snatch it up!

Hi all, Ya its right, the 950 mah battery is poor for N 95. I had heard that there is a battery of 1350 mah available but dont know if it is for N95 :(

Will find out in the market soon and let you all know if it works for N95.

    Have a great N95 time..

    There’s no 1350mAh battery available for the N95. Not one I’d trust…

Even though it says 1000 mAh, it’s probably still 950 mAh. There is no difference with mine. The N95 will randomly reboot with that baby in it also. I just use it as a backup now.

For heavy duty users another great option is to get APC UBP10 rechargeable mobile power pack. This can supply power to any USB device. Then use the Nokia USB TO Power Cable and you can add about 10 to 20 hours of additional run time to the phone. This battery pack is about the same dimension and weight as the N95 it self.

I’ve got the Proporta myself. I swear by it, as does half the membership at N95users.com…

3600mAh- gives you a good three and a half re-ups per charge. I use it with my N95, my PSP, my wife’s Nokia and her iPod, my 20 gig storage drive, and my soon to arrive Jabra BT8010.
