Mobile phone protection: Mobile Anti-Virus

tagged with:,

This might be a “no-no!” to some people, but I have never used any protective accessories for my past and current mobile phones. Any rubbery, leather or whatever kind of extra “skin” on a phone is making me want to rip it off!

n95 handI know that in the end it might lengthen the phone’s lifetime, but I simply do not think that way. A phone is a tool, a tool must be used. And if it needs extra protection, it should have been built in. If a phone needs another outer shell, then, IMHO, the phone’s own shell was not designed properly.
I want to be able to slip my phone into a bag or pocket without even thinking about it.

And if there is one thing that gives me a terrible itch: Those 40+ guys that wear their phones in the ugly black leather cases on their belts. Ow!!! Just the way they open it and remove the phone from it explains why their wifes think: “Oh my God, why did I agree to let him buy the darn gizmo!”.

So, the only protection I want to talk about is concerning not the outside of the phone, but the inside: Mobile Anti-Virus

I am using a Mac myself, so fighting viruses is something I do not do on a daily basis. And although mobile viruses are still not that common, the increasing signs are something to take into account.
Preparing to secure a phone as good as possible took me (again) to the S60 site, where I found this little tool, called F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus.

F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus keeps your smartphone and data safe with real-time protection. Taking just minutes to install, it is constantly working in the background to protect you and your data.

It looks like it does what any other PC virus scanner does, only on a mobile device now. I think it is sad that we are going to need additional software like this, but on the other hand it is probably something we simply cannot avoid.

Good thing is that there is a lot of open source software available for S60, so I guess that there will be some free anti-virus software too.

Anybody experience with this / using something alike?
