Just hooked my N95 up to the Nokia Software updater, said OK to install the 114.0 KB MB update and here we go:
Firmware updated to version 12.0.013
One of the most anticipated features of course is the Assisted-GPS. Will test and revert later on this and other improvements.

I guess you mean 114 MB?
I just installed it. I’m happy to see that my BH-501 is now working properly, without any stuttering.
Also with the help of A-GPS my N95 can now lock on indoors.
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 5:38 pm ¶A-GPS is cool.
I have not found out yet to combine the camera with the GPS to GEO code my pictures. N95 supports Exif, so everything is actually there.
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 6:20 pm ¶Is there anything i can download/install to make this battery last longer than 10 hours on standby mode? Its so anoying charging it up overnight and then having to re-charge when getting home from work.
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 6:33 pm ¶Hi, i live in norway, when i try too update my n95 it displays that i have the most current. v11.0.026. anobody know when the update comes to norway?
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 6:38 pm ¶@ Thornbridge: No Sir, no can do… this is the most discussed annoyance of this wonderful device…
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 6:40 pm ¶@ André: Have no idea. What I did notice is that my Nokia Updater software itself needed a upgrade, as a new version was available.
Thanks Jan. Ive read somewhere if i turn the 3G mode off it will help. I will now have to find out how to do that as im a beginner with this sort of technology.
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 6:44 pm ¶@ Thornbridge: to turn off 3G:
Goto: menu - tools - settings - phone - network and then network mode… standard is Dual Mode, just put it to GSM.
Good luck!
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 6:47 pm ¶Thanks again Jan. Ive followed your instuctions and i now look forward to only charging it once a day. (fingers crossed!!!)
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 6:51 pm ¶@Thornbridge: I also keep my bluetooth turned off and not using Voice command feature too much. Keep WLAN scanning turned off all the time. GPR/EDGE connection only when needed. Ofcourse GPS and WiFi would drain the most. With all those steps, i charge once a day.
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 7:13 pm ¶I have the newest update app for norwegian nokias. but it wont find no new update. is this an european update?
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 7:19 pm ¶@Abdullah. Thanks for that, how do you turn WLAN scanning off all the time? (sorry for being a bit thick!)
Posted 06 Jul 2007 at 7:26 pm ¶Hi
I live in Ireland, anybody know if it is ok for me to download the latest firmware from Nokia USA? Or will that cause an issue with settings that I need to use my phone here?
Posted 07 Jul 2007 at 1:50 am ¶Thanks
Have just updated the newest version of N95 firmware, v12.0.013, dated 19-06-07. Doesn’t appear to have any changes to GPS mapping. Same version is still installed?? As for assisted GPS not sure how to find it, have looked in all the menus???
Posted 07 Jul 2007 at 7:26 am ¶I have just installed the latest version too and cant see any differences. Like Paul, I can’t see any difference with the Mapping software and not sure how to get assisted GPS working?
Posted 07 Jul 2007 at 10:20 am ¶Dont Nokia provide a set of release notes for the new firmware version? Would have thought that was standard software release practice?
Im in the U.S. and my updater still says the most recent version is v11.0.026. it does not show the 12.0.013 update. Any one know why?
Posted 07 Jul 2007 at 12:00 pm ¶Garrrr! I thought I could download the new firmware in Asia (Singapore) so I accidentally reinstalled the previous firmware. When will the new firmware be released in Asia?
Posted 07 Jul 2007 at 2:21 pm ¶The new firmware is great. I’m on OPTUS in Australia (Sydney). I couldn’t get a GPS lock standing outside on my balcony (in a group of large high-rise buildings), but now it happily finds me indoors sitting at my desk, and in less than 30 seconds.
Everything else appears the same, but with only a few hours playing with it - there might be something else there I’ve missed.
Posted 07 Jul 2007 at 5:05 pm ¶Anyone know how to update an n95 if you use a mac????????????
Posted 07 Jul 2007 at 7:08 pm ¶hii
guys after puting the latest firmware in my n95 when i clic the menu button the screen comes black for 1 sec or more then it comes back normal are u guys having the same problem
and this firmware is the worst then before
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 12:37 am ¶Alright Ben and Paul, to see if you have Assisted GPS go to Menu>Tools>settings>General>positioning>positioning methods, and there you will see Bluetooth GPS, Assisted GPS, Integrated GPS and Network Based.
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 1:32 am ¶As far as I have come across, there isnt a great deal of difference between the version 11 and 12 except for the Assisted GPS. the map application still remains version 1.0 unless of course u download the version 1.1
@moosa: I’m not getting that problem, either before or after the application of this or any firmware update.
If you’re using a resource hungry theme, then it might be taking a long time to load the resources (icons, background, etc) off the card / out of memory. Particularly if a few things are running in the background.
Try turning off ‘animate icons’, using a default simple theme, and ensure no running applications in the background. If the problem goes away, then that is probably the issue. Just a suggestion.
Good luck.
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 3:33 am ¶Further to my claim of getting a GPS lock in under 30 seconds, now when I step out of the house, if I start MAPS and skip the initial ‘Earth Zoom’ it takes about 6 seconds to lock on. Presumably because I am always starting out with the same cell tower. Firing it up from a different location though appears to still be much quicker than before. Now the delay is acceptable (about 30 seconds), whereas before it was interminable (more than 2 minutes).
Accuracy appears to be a bit better (though this is hard to quantify). I don’t get the pin-point jumping around as much when standing still.
My worry now .. as the Nokia servers start to load up with more an more people using the A-GPS feature, the response time might degrade.
Hey .. you gotta have something to complain about
:-)
Jase.
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 3:42 am ¶Not sure if this relates to the new firmware or not, but I’ve noticed that the “3G” indicator below the signal strength bars changes to “3.5G” on occasion (I assume when I’m in a HSDPA ready cell).
I honestly don’t remember it doing this in the old firmware, but it could be coincidence that I am noticing it now.
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 10:11 am ¶@ Takashi: The new version is available in Asia, although I’m in the Philippines, and am currently upgrading it at this very moment.
109.1 MB
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 11:38 am ¶…..where can i download this update and is it available in south africa……and are these phones specific to a country can i buy one in South Africa and use it in Asia?
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 12:43 pm ¶@Pee: I still don’t see the latest firmware. It must be something to do with the phone’s product code or something. Looks like I need to wait a bit longer before it appears in Nokia Software Updater.
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 2:02 pm ¶If u can find the new firmware or not depend form your product number. Branded telephones have different product number and Nokia usually posts upgrades much much later. I think that is the reason why some of us cannot find the update.
Posted 09 Jul 2007 at 8:38 pm ¶I have a branded italian N95 but I just changed my product number to the un-branded Euro 1 “Plum” one and I was able to make it.
Murray: I use Mac as well but I istalled WMware Fusion w/h XP just for these type of uses. It works like a charm.
where can I get the updates?
Posted 10 Jul 2007 at 3:06 am ¶I am in Singapore, I have updated the new firmware without any problem.
Jaw
Posted 10 Jul 2007 at 7:18 am ¶I’m in the Netherlands and my updater still says the most recent version is v11.0.026. it does not show the 12.0.013 update. Any one knows why? Or do I just have to be patients?
Posted 10 Jul 2007 at 10:37 am ¶keep trying but still says mobile up to date 11.0.026 anyone got the code they used to get this new firmware sorted out let us know the code pleas
Posted 10 Jul 2007 at 7:10 pm ¶Hi [Jason] I have also noticed the 3g symbol changing to 3.5g whilst connected so might not be such a coincidence.
Posted 10 Jul 2007 at 9:39 pm ¶I have now noticed the settings for A-GPS so at least I know it installed correctly. However when I have used the A-GPS (I am in New Zealand by the way) it seems to pinpoint me to …..the middle of the Tasman Sea!! Not sure if that means that thats where the closest cell tower is (seems unlikely) or if it needs to do some kind of triangulation (been watching too many movies i think)?
I have also noticed a network symbol appear on the maps app towards the right of the screen which I guess denotes that A-GPS is working.
Hi Guys, only had mine for a week now but its buggy as hell! the reason some can get the update and some cant is based on your airtime provider. each n95 has an airtime provider code mine is 0546659 which is t-mobile uk. based on this code will depend on you being able to upgrade. the airtime provider has to test and accept the update as good with there network before you can upgrade. t-mobile have not agreed the v12 firmware yet so anyone on t-mobile cannot upgrade there phone. I have told t-mobile to agree the update or i’ll hand the phone back and cancel the contract! i think unlocking the phone and changing the code will facilitate the upgrade.
Posted 12 Jul 2007 at 1:40 pm ¶Rik, you don’t need to unlock the the phone. Just change the product number w/h NSS.
Posted 12 Jul 2007 at 1:50 pm ¶http://bphreaks.brinkster.net/NSSDownloadLanding.htm
You just have to change the number from your actual to the unbranded one.
Thanks Mario, this will also invalidate the warranty on the phone and the link you have provided involves paying more money over. I appreciate the reply but i think i will hand the phone back, get my money back and wait for the issues to be fixed. i’ll stick with my SE P990i and my nokia 9500 for the time being, at least i know they work well and i have bluetooth gps on both, i just wanted to get rid of carrying so many devices on my travels.
thanks though.
Posted 12 Jul 2007 at 1:57 pm ¶I have see a good improvement in the sound quality and splitting of the setro after upgrading to v12. The phone is also a bit faster. and the camera takes pics is night very neatly now..the flash range is also improved a bit.
Posted 13 Jul 2007 at 4:03 am ¶I’m stuck with version 10 of the firmware and it is very frustrating.
Posted 16 Jul 2007 at 6:26 pm ¶Is there a way to force an update? I use the GPS a lot and the new assisted version would be very useful.
Cheers
Nick
Cheers for all the information guys, ive been hunting around for a new update (still on ver. 10) as im in the UK on Orange.
Posted 16 Jul 2007 at 11:22 pm ¶Ive contacted my operator about the updates and they are clueless, which is frustrating.
I told the 18 year old manager of my local store that:
“if i dont update the phone i could get a virus, therefor damaging my phone, you wont let me update the phone leaving me vunerable to viruses… what are you going to do about this?”
A complete lie i know, but apparently they are contacting the head office about this so i may well get my update!
I updated the 12.0.013 on my N95.
Posted 17 Jul 2007 at 11:06 am ¶Fring is not working anymore.
Cant access the dialled calls through the call button.Have to use the application to access dialled calls.
Anybody having the same problem ?
yeah vince im havin the same problem with orange! they have not a clue bout firmware updates when you ring them. they told me that nokia r responsible for firmware updates and not them
Posted 17 Jul 2007 at 1:41 pm ¶Hi everyone!
I have noticed clear improvements in the new firmware in case of gps.
-A-Gps makes faster gps pinpointing. From 2minutes before it has gone down to 2-20 seconds.
Battery life has improved a lot after 3 weeks of use.
Waiting for the new maps update.
Posted 18 Jul 2007 at 11:34 am ¶I have changed the model number and updated to v12. But beware: If you back up your phone before hand, then change the model number, then update, DO NOT restore the settings. Your phone will not start up. This happened to me. If this happens, turn your phone off, then press:
Posted 19 Jul 2007 at 7:41 am ¶* 3 Green-call-button, hold them all down and start your phone. When your phone gets to the menu release the * 3 green-call-button. This will reset your phone. It will not restore your phone to a previous firmware version. You will have to manually set your settings to the way they were. You can restore contacts and user files with no problems. I did not try restoring messages.
I had been trying to update my N95 (in the US) for the past week and it wouldn’t let me, saying my current firmware (11.0.26) was up to date… UNTIL JUST NOW. I just checked and the update is finally available for US model phones. FINALLY!
Posted 19 Jul 2007 at 5:09 pm ¶I’ve updated today, and it’s all ok. (Had to reinstall every app though…)
But I haven’t been able to connect to SIP the last week. (Not since I installed the new messenger) Anybody else haveing problems?
Posted 19 Jul 2007 at 7:47 pm ¶Ok, little update:
Orange contacted me this morning via e-mail that no new updates are available for the N95, i sent a reply immediatly contradicting them (link to this page) to which they replied that Nokia have not told them of a new update and will be “investigating this matter further”
Taking matters into my own hands as i know this “investigating” has probably been passed onto the office monkey, i contacted Nokia. They told me that Orange have received the firmware and were in the process of testing it…
Im starting to get a little annoyed how Orange is passing the buck here. I’ll post more info when Orange get back to me.
Posted 19 Jul 2007 at 10:22 pm ¶me too, stuck with v11. why v12 didn’t come out early in malaysia?? damn it!
Posted 20 Jul 2007 at 2:59 am ¶Hi, I dont know if anyone else has this but my N95 has no problems with the battery, I charge mine up every 3 or so days, and thats with using it for a few hours of calls and some pictures, GPS drains it pretty well as you would expect, Ive found that just before you put it back in your pocket that if you press the switch button (the one that brings up menu on the left side of the keypad and has a blue symbol on it) for a few seconds it will display what programs are currently running in the background, remove anything other than standby (you cant remove standby anyway) by moving to the item and pressing C(Clear) in that menu, this will close the running program and increase your phone life by a few days, its annoying but simple atleast, shame they didnt think to put in an auto program exit if its not in use for 10mnutes, things like Contacts stay open if you go in there and make a call, ridiculous cos why would you need it to keep that running since your making the call you wanted to?! Anyway, I hope that helps someone, I ride a motorbike so I have to be extra careful when Im out, no in car/bike charger haha
Posted 20 Jul 2007 at 8:53 am ¶Could someone fill me in on why my bill could be so high? my contract is at 51quid a month and includes 500mins and 250 texts, 4mb internet, i paid the 3 year sat nav package, ive barely used the internet apart from the first month, which i probably used about 6mb sine then ive not bothered cos its too slow and i have a 8mb connection on my computer so why bother, im surely not being charged for using sat nav am i? ive paid the 3 year package so that shouldnt mean i have to pay to use it aswell? this months bill was 76quid, 25quid more than my contract, ive not sent enough texts or enough minutes to go above my limit so im confused, will phone them later if no one has any ideas, ill be proper pissed off if ive had to pay 47quid to get satnav for 3 years then have to pay to use it aswell!
