Nokia N95: First Firmware update: from 10.0.018 to 11.0.026

tagged with:No Tags

Although the Nokia Software Update website is not mentioning this yet, the Nokia forums are mentioning the way to update your firmware:

  1. go to http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4226014
  2. N95 is not on the list yet, select Nokia N80 or E61, download the software
  3. start Nokia updater and it checks if update is avilable for your type of N95, example-N95 operator/unbranded
  4. The reason its giving some people with unbranded no software update available is because its only on Euro 1 N95 at the moment, give it a week or two.

First N95 update
As you can see the update file is 113.8 MB.

Reading some other reports on this first update, we can see some nice improvements:

  • No more crashes so far when trying to retrieve services(vox flickr) and i dont know if its my position but gps now picks up indoors quicker than before (no more windowsill) but please bare in mind it could be that im getting 5-6 satellites
  • The unit seems snappier and the camera quality has improved.
  • Yes, GPS seems better now. Upon first start up, noticed that the signal bars were mostly full.

Will update you with my personal remarks soon!

    - Snappier and quicker response in interface: indeed!
    - Camera feature is speedier too, with a new sound during focus (half-pressed shutter button)
    - GPS: not much improvement indoors for me (yet)…
    - Crashes… will try to edit a movie again later and see what happens…

My 02 (UK) N95 is still coming up as having no updates when doing the above. I guess I’ll just have to wait a little longer yet.

At least you’ve got your O2 N95! I keep getting fobbed off with a different delivery date every time I phone up for my upgrade. Had any problems with it yet?

Loads, that’s why I want this update. I got mine instore on April 2nd and had problems with it ever since, and only with the actual phone functions.

I’m not happy as my O2 UK N95 has no firmware when certain other operators do. Its a disgrace, especially since I actually need either a replacement phone or the firmware upgrading (this is due to the internet browser opening then closing when selected.) O2 need to pull their finger out, the only customisation they seem to have done is add the o2 logo as a screensaver, theme and shutdown display.

Latest message from o2 is that hopefully they’ll have a delivery of phones in tomorrow… hopefully this firmware update will have trickled through to the phone (or at least be available online!) by then.. let me know if/when you can upgrade your firmware cheeze.

With the current position Vodafone is in (legal action against them) I guess that the involvement of operators in firmware and restrictions will change…

    Let’s wait and see
