Well, the holiday-season is over and it has been very nice and quiet. This year I had managed to arrange everything in such a way that I could spend December the 25th with my boyfriend and only had to travel to family of both sides on the 24th and 26th.
I enjoy traveling by car, but what I lack is (the money for) a well equipped navigator. Of course, for the recent traveling to family it was not needed in any way. For future travel though, I would really like to have a nice device that can guide me throughout Europe.
Sure, I like the TomTom, but it is still quite expensive and it is Yet Another Device. So… in comes the N95! Yes! One of the most important reasons that I like this phone soo much, is that it really combines all the devices you need in daily life in 1 package! And the built-in GPS adds a lot to this already splendid machine.
There is a very good demo of the mapping software in the following YouTube video, brought to you by howardchui.com. The many extra’s (like favoritizing restaurants and other locations, routing to nearby spots) make that you will probably use this mapping software not just in your car, but also in your daily walking life.

Just a little note: there is a clear difference in the video between “car navigation” and “pedestrial navigation”, so providing use outside the car is truly targeted. Nokia will - most probably - have engaged in some interesting deals with third parties…
I wonder whether this will contribute to more sponsored and therefor free services for consumers?

[…] The review elaborately shows the device and its functions, with screenshots for about every step taken. Good to see that all the Chinese characters seem to be displayed well too! (Well, it looked like Chinese to me!)Then some pictures taken with the N95, some screenshots of the RealPlayer, screenshots of the GPS Mapping, followed by the SMS and MMS functionality (guessing from the screens shown). Then some browsing, some games, the calculator, the barcode reader, the internal memory stats, Bluetooth functionality and USB connectivity. […]
[…] to see and I would favorite some nice restaurants, clubs and shops. As seen in various demos of the Nokia Mapping Software, it should be fairly easy to prepare this. Most probably I could find a way to get the subway maps […]
