Nokia N95… that darn battery!

tagged with:No Tags

So I woke up this morning to the sound of my radio… which is wrong, as I had set the alarm of my N95 about quarter of an hour earlier than my radio alarm.

When I looked at my phone, I saw nothing but a black screen.
As it appeared, the battery ran out of juice during the night. Sure, I know I should have charged it, but it still had 3 bars available when I went to sleep and I had no applications running… and the charger was in the other room and I was really tired. ;)

Anyhow, it’s an excuse to mock the battery-life of the Nokia N95 and I was actually quite happy with it so far. But if it wasn’t for my back-up alarm (Yes, you can question the fact that I do have a back-up alarm, but conditioned and sub-conscious hand movements in the morning have proven to be alarm-clock disabling…) I would probably be in my bed.

What was the worst time for your battery to die on you?

3bars! How long we’re you asleep for!? 3bars on my N95 will last almost 24hrs with the odd text and phonecall!

Indeed! That was why I was so surprised!

    I even had a short night… slept from 23.45 till 5.50

But I did notice before that my N95 keeps its full bar signal for a very long time and then dropping rapidly towards zero…

I have heard other people report that there battery indicator dosen’t update quite as often as it should (When switching phone on / off it suddenly refreshing battery level to much lower). Are there any third party battery apps for the N95 ? I used to run Windows Mobile and there we’re a lot of apps to give you more accurate info about battery level.

Yep, the last 3 can go quickly, especially if the network is active. Why don’t you put your phones in offline mode overnight.

Having been using the N95 as my main device for a month now, I can say that the battery life keeps getting better and better. It easily lasts a day whatever I seem to throw at it.

Thanks Steve, that is a very good piece of advice… simple yet efficient!

My battery died after using sportstracker for 3 hours… which is a shame, ’cause now I registered only half of the full circuit… I charged the phone the day before (didn’t use it in the mean time)

The battery is killing me. Better than N80 (4 hours) but with tethering to my N800 on, it cannot go a day. The N73 had no issues.

I’ve got UMTS off, am not using WiFi or GPS. Some text and a bit of mobile Gmail. Not too mention a few calls here and there.

I don’t know how the battery will get better as Steve alludes, but am certainly willing to try given my interest in this device!

I found myself in much the same boat.. I would make a few calls, used the built-in mail client to pull mail from my imap server with auto-retrieval, little bluetooth, umts shut off, never used gps.

I was lucky to get slightly over a day. If I hit the device a bit harder, with some browsing, etc., I’d be dead before the end of the day. I returned the phone inside my 30-day return window to the Nokia flagship store in NY, and exchanged it for an E65. Much happier with the E65!

Having always on push/auto email retrieval seems a bit of a common theme when talking about people with N95 battery problems. I’d have thought that anyone with a big email need would be much happier with an E61 or E61i etc.

The N95 is a consumer smartphone, with focus on multimedia and navigation etc. I only check email when I actually have time to read through it and have no problems with battery life.

    8-)

Have to agree with Steve on this.

Must say that if you really want to work your email on the N95, the combination with a full qwerty keyboard is the only option IMHO.
Which means I would sit down for it, and well, then I will hook it up to the charger too!

Maybe that is something for its successor: A Nokia that slides vertically in landscape mode with a full qwerty keyboard underneath… (where have I seen that before??? ;) )

Hmm.. It’s not my work email I was pulling. That’s what the BB that work gave me is for. :)
