tagged with:, , ,

I’m wondering if anyone can help me?

I’ve just brought the N95 8GB and I can’t download any of my videos to my laptop it just won’t accept them. I’ve even downloaded “realplayer” to my laptop as that’s the app on the phone but stil nothing. It will let me view the file but when I try and Copy, transfer, send the file it won’t work.

Has anyone had any problems with this before?

Any help would be great, thanks

Mad Monday: Nokia N95 and S60 linkage

After a very dynamic weekend, time for some linky-love to some very interesting posts:

Yup, enough reading stuff again… ENJOY!

Oh, by the way, if you are designing applications for the Nokia N95 and you want them to be promoted here on N95blog, please do not hesitate to ask!

Bad Guy in Knight Rider 2008 uses black N95 8GB… with touchscreen. Ha!

tagged with:, , , , ,

Knight Rider 2008Maybe should not support these kind of sites and darn this movie is bad… Knight Rider 2008 (TV version) is some combination of the old Knight Rider and Viper.

One of the bad guys uses a black N95 8GB which in one scene shows the screen with a numerical touchpad. Always fun to see that in movies they never use a mobile phone showing a UI that actually acts the way it acts for real.

Would you like to see the N95 with a touchpad?

Nokia N95 Travel Blog: Reporting back home with minimal digital luggage

I received a message from Aaron, who soon will be relying on his Nokia N95 8GB full time, while travelling through South-East Asia.

From his blog:

soon im off going travelling to south-east asia, for quite some time, and i wanted to be able to stay in touch with everyone back home, i wanted to be able to easily keep an online diary and upload pictures and even plot the pics on a map, but…

i want to keep it simple, i didnt want to be lugging around expensive laptops or sitting in internet cafe’s for hours on end or even having lots of devices with miles of cables and chargers. what i wanted was a simple and very portable solution that fully intergrates all my blogs and facebook etc with as few clicks and hastle as possible.

So after much research i settled on a nokia n95 8g, a wicked smartphone which in theory could do all the above.

So, he now has all the needed equipment and tools:

  • Nokia N95 8GB
  • Nokia SU-8W wireless keyboard
  • Typepad blog (this is because it allows the upload of “text notes”)
  • FlogBlog (blog integration with Facebook)
  • Flickr account (for the pictures)
  • Shozu account (for Geotagging)

The trip has not started yet, but I guess it is interesting to see how Aaron has managed to prepare himself for blogging while traveling:

Using CalSync for S60 on Nokia N95

tagged with:, , , , ,

This neat little application has not gotten much attention yet, most probably because it is a very early beta.
Still, it needs to get more attention as it has great potential.

CalSyncS60 provides two-way synchronization between S60 calendar and Google Calendar.
For example, when you add appointment to Google Calendar it will appear also in your phone.
Just start the application and hit sync.

I tested the application yesterday:

N95blog scrnsht 0007 N95blog scrnsht 0008 N95blog scrnsht 0009 N95blog scrnsht 0010

Biggest irritation so far is that it can only sync correctly when connecting over WiFi… which is a bummer, cause it certainly limits its possibilities.

The entries it is not able to retrieve are the entries belonging to other than the main calendar. I am using 5 differently dedicated calendars, but it only syncs those entries belonging to my main calendar.

So, head over, download the app and give feedback to S60Addons, cause this app deserves to be developed further into a solid synchronization tool between S60 and gCalendar!

Riding the Wavelog: testdrive from Nokia N95

tagged with:, , , , , ,
So, there we go. I am writing this post from my Apple keyboard o my Nokia N95… using Wavelog.Still have to get used to the different workflow while writing a post, did not read any manual in order to test how it works “out of the box”. No idea what will happen with what I insert “down” or “right”, as the two options mention.Okay, enough text for now. Will edit this further later on.

So, the above written was posted from my Nokia N95.

The setup and usage of Wavelog is very simple. Now that I see the output, I am quite amazed. It puts the different objects (text, images) in a table structure, rather than simple markup.

Still, it is a simple and effective tool for blogging to WordPress or Drupal, as it very neatly uses XML-RPC to publish content. The picture added above was easily added, though I noticed that I could not access other folders than my gallery folder (too bad I keep my screenshots in another folder…).

Neither could I add categories (only general), nor tags…
Anyhow. Wavelog does open up possibilities and with future adjustments will be a good onboard blogging tool for the Nokia N95 and other phones.

I say onboard, as there is of course also a mobile admin plugin for WordPress… to use in a mobile browser.

Some screenshots uploaded from my Mac:

GeocacheNavigator: Free for N95 users!

tagged with:, , , , , ,

GeocacheNavigator is currently free of charge for Nokia N95 users… (AND Nokia N82 and Nokia 6110 Navigator users)

A small update: What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.

Okay, for me this appears to be a advanced way to spice up your Easter egghunting… On the other hand, it also kinda scares me: What if somebody deliberately tries to freak some people out by stashing some malicious stuff in one of the caches?

Anyhow, to show you a bit more what it is about, please visit the GeocachingNavigator website or watch the below video:

First quick comparison: Nokia N96 vs Nokia N95

tagged with:No Tags

Only a few moments after the official annoouncement of the Nokia N96, we already see the first (quick and dirty) shoot-out between this new multimedia computer and its predecessor.

Techdigest has a nice comparison between the two, with the following verdict:

Worth it?
Simply comparing specifications on virtual paper surely won’t do Nokia’s N96 justice. The handset certainly looks the business, and there are some obvious improvements hiding amongst the acronyms and numbers.

Just displayed to the world in Barcelona: The Nokia N96:

[Nokia Press Release]

Most advanced multimedia computer optimized for entertainment

Mobile World Congress 2008, Barcelona, Spain/Espoo, Finland - Nokia today unveiled the Nokia N96, a multimedia computer truly optimized for video and TV. With a large 2.8″ screen, 16 gigabytes of internal memory and support for high-quality videos in a wide range of formats, the dual-slide Nokia N96 represents an exciting new chapter in mobile media. The Nokia N96 multimedia computer is expected to begin shipping in the third quarter of 2008 with an estimated sales price of approximately 550 euros, before subsidies or taxes.

“In 2007, the Nokia N95 became an icon of convergence of Internet and mobility. With over 7 million units sold to date, the N95 has changed the way people use their mobile device. The Nokia N96 we introduced today builds on the success of N95, further enhancing the experience,” says Jonas Geust, who oversees Nokia’s Explore category. “Through the power of the Internet, video and TV are becoming even more prevalent in people’s lives. With its large, bright screen, and a range of high-speed connectivity options and the enhanced Nokia Video Center, the new Nokia N96 is a personal window to entertainment.”

Accessing internet videos is quick and simple. The Nokia N96 supports common video formats including MPEG-4, Windows Media Video and Flash Video, making favorite videos easy to view. Transferring and accessing videos is even faster with the high-speed USB 2.0 connection and WLAN and HSDPA support. In select markets, the integrated DVB-H receiver offers live broadcast TV with an automatically updating program guide. The massive memory can store up to 40 hours of video content. The storage capacity of the Nokia N96 can even be further expanded with an optional microSD card, such as the new Nokia 8GB microSDHC Card MU-43 which increases the available memory of the Nokia N96 to a total of 24 GB. For added convenience, the Nokia N96 features a ‘kickstand’ on the back cover that allows for hands-free viewing.

The Nokia Video Center offers one place to discover and access a variety of mobile content ranging from movie trailers and comedy to news from world-leading content brands such as YouTube, Reuters, and Sony Pictures. The catalogue of internet video feeds is continually expanded with more regional and country specific content.

For a superb music experience, the Nokia N96 features media keys, a 3.5 mm headphone connector and built-in 3D stereo speakers. The Nokia Maps application offers richer maps with urban details and satellite views and has upgrade options such as City Guides, turn-by-turn pedestrian mode and voice-guided car navigation.

The Nokia N96 boasts a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, flash and video light. It allows DVD-like quality video capture at 30 frames per second. Further, with the integrated A-GPS, consumers can now ‘geotag’ their pictures with location data and share them with their online communities.

The Nokia N96 naturally supports the Ovi family of Nokia internet services, including maps, music, media sharing and more.

I am quite impressed: 16 gigs is yet another leap forward. Also surprised: 950 mAh battery… this thing better have some really decent powermanagement!
