Phones4U blunders with the N95

tagged with:, , ,

Some lucky peeps have received the N95 from Phones 4 U at a nice discount:

Phones 4u accidentally gave away Nokia N95s at the wrong price on the day it launched because of a retail system glitch.

Some outlets were forced to give away the handset for free or at a discounted price as Mobile went to press.

It was coming up as free on an Orange £45-per-month contract when it should have cost £100. There were quite a few embarrassing incidents where we had called the customer to tell them it was free, then realised the cock-up when they came to collect it. I had to give one away for nothing and another two with £50 discounts to keep the customers happy,’ said one store manager.

A Phones 4u spokesman said: ‘The pricing advertised in store for the N95 is correct, but due to an unforeseen system error, a small number of N95s were sold at the wrong price [on Monday]. The error was noticed and rectified by lunchtime.’

Always good to see a glitch in the Matrix… :P

I’ve been waiting for the release of a GPS phone for a while, and yesterday it arrived on my doorstep, hoorah! The only slight problem is I can’t work it. I’ve called O2 who say I need to contact Nokia as they don’t know how to use it either [helpful], and Nokia have decided to entrust their customer service to the Carphone Warehouse [enough said]. My problem is that in Maps my satelite dish has a red cross over it. Do I need to activate something or change a setting, or should it ‘find’ itself autmoatically when you load it and open the handset?

    Please help me??

Lost - The Red cross on the sat dish means there is no satalites visible to the device from where you are. First thing before running to CPW would be go outside (if not already) and try with slider open. You shouldn’t need to do anything else…

Thank iwhiffin, that indeed is the first advise.

@ Lost: Maybe one of the strange construction choices of Nokia, but the GPS receiver appears to be located at the bottom of the slider.

Different sources have mentioned that the Mapping works better with the slider all the way down. Outside should perform way better than in-house…

    Good luck!
