These screenshots really show off why I am really happy with the new firmware:

Thank you Nokia! For me this feels the same when I upgraded my Mac to Leopard… it actually GAINED speed! M$ still got a lesson to learn… ![]()

What’s the application you’re using on the leftmost screenshots? Or is it part of the new firmware that I’ve just not discovered yet?
Posted 10 Dec 2007 at 1:31 pm ¶Which firmwear is this? V 20.0.015? And which theme are you using exactly (where can I find it)?
Posted 10 Dec 2007 at 1:46 pm ¶@ David: That is Handy Taskman, currently using a trial version (15 days), but this app is sure one to buy.
@ Silvestre: firmware is 20.0.015 indeed. Theme that I am usingis the “Dark Teal” theme.
Posted 10 Dec 2007 at 2:05 pm ¶I agree with you 100% - the phone is snappier, more stable, and the camera is quicker too!
Posted 10 Dec 2007 at 3:22 pm ¶Does anyone know when this update will be available for n95-1 owners in north america? Every time I run the software updater it tells me my 12.0.013 is the most recent.
Posted 10 Dec 2007 at 6:50 pm ¶Yes, in my personal view it’s like a new phone!
Posted 10 Dec 2007 at 9:21 pm ¶Yeah it really is great improvement except the GPS. Nokia has removed the ’start tracking’ feature after you plan a route on your GPS merely to force to buy navigation. I have used the GPS very often and now it is useless as I cannot follow my route real time. I cannot believe they would remove one feature from a $700 phone to sell you navigation. Unfortunately, Nokia embedded the new maps version in firmware and there is no way to downgrade it.
Posted 11 Dec 2007 at 1:04 am ¶muracito: Try Nav4all it’s free and does navigation too (have yet to get the voice working though).
Posted 11 Dec 2007 at 1:58 am ¶Yeah nav4all is not bad but requires data plan. Google maps for mobile is also a good one,but how could Nokia realease an update and remove what was a free feature. I am not alone, look at this link.
Posted 11 Dec 2007 at 2:23 am ¶Hi,
I was wondering if someone could advise me on something. I have an N95 and am with Orange I cannot get any higher firmware update than V11. I have today called Nokia who told me to call Orange who told me to call Nokia. Now I am still on V11 and my head hurts!!!
Nokia told me that Orange should rectify this for me.
Orange (Who have not been back in touch with me yet) inform me that they only have version V11 available. What can I do? Does anybody know what application/program/install is not allowing me to update to V12. Can I remove it? Am I the only person to have this issue?
I find it highly irritating and am getting Nokia and Orange to talk with each other through me via email.
I am new to this site, but have directed Orange to it. So I will keep Orange N95 users updated as best as I can, may I start a new thread when I have more info on this?
Thanks in advance and apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place, as I said I am new to this site. Moderators feel free to delete this entry if you deem fit.

You’ve got two choices here - either pester the hell out of Orange or take matters into your own hands. The software you’ll need to do this is called Nemesis Service Suite, and you’ll also need to do some additional digging for what to change and the value to change it to. I’d rather not go into it here as I’m not sure what the legality of it all is, but the upshot is that at the end of it all your phone identifies to the firmware update tool as an unbranded, factory standard N95. This will probably mean all your Orange software disappears too, and of course as with any low-level hackery like this you run the risk of turning your phone into a rather expensive plastic brick.
Hopefully that’s put you on the right track though.
Posted 11 Dec 2007 at 6:00 pm ¶@David Williams
Yeah I was aware of that, but my beef with that is, why should I have to put my warranty at risk due to a lack of communication between buyer and seller (Orange and Nokia)
I am going to go for the other choice and bug the hell out of Orange, I have so far today:
Explained to Orange what Firmware is 0.o (no lie)
Kick started a mass debate in the particular Orange Office I called.
Irritated one Nokia employee!!
Explained again to Orange the necessity of having the latest firmware on a smart phone, as I will most likely install 3rd party applications I am at risk or viruses and other malicious coding? Am I not?
Nokia have already annoyed me by bringing out that N95 8 GB so soon, I do so hope in the future they explain to Network providers that consumers will want to update their firmware and address this issue.
Thank you for your help David
Posted 11 Dec 2007 at 6:11 pm ¶I really like voice-guided navigation so I’ve got Garmin’s Mobile version (uses no data on-the-go), although I’d like to have the built-in version aswell. Route66 also have a version to use with the N95.
A comment on the screenshots: On TaskMan you have the “Recent”-applications tab open, instead of the “Open”-applications
Posted 12 Dec 2007 at 11:48 am ¶What is the theme name? It is really beautifull and looks cool. Can I get it for my N73 ME phone?
Posted 12 Dec 2007 at 1:30 pm ¶Never mind. Have found it in your comment. Thanks.
Posted 12 Dec 2007 at 1:34 pm ¶As I have blogged (http://pigsonthewing.wordpress.com/2007/12/11/more-nokia-n95-and-opera-mini-wishes/), the N95 browser still needs:
To allow the user to copy text from a web page
To allow the user to disable CSS
To allow the user to view the HTML source of visited pages
To parse microformats (not least hCard, to add contact details to the address book and dial phone numbers; hCalendar, to add events to the calendar; and Geo, to find places on maps).
The camera should be able to geo-tag images (via EXIF) and save Raw, or at least much higher-resolution, images
Posted 12 Dec 2007 at 2:10 pm ¶Ho can I up-grade a locked N95 phone into Vodafone Romania network from v12 to v20. Phone code is 0548979
Posted 12 Dec 2007 at 2:43 pm ¶BTW why I don’t have the same icons like yours? Is it because you are using N95 and I using N73ME? Thanks.
Posted 12 Dec 2007 at 4:30 pm ¶I also find the new firmware absolutely great, like having a whole new phone. A couple of remarks:
Posted 12 Dec 2007 at 10:10 pm ¶1) I’d like to be able to save pictures in TIFF or RAW, as previously written; the compression sometimes really sucks;
2) since the update, I cannot play some mp4 videos that I used to play before; I get the “unable to play either sound or video clip trying to play partially” message, and then only the audio plays. Before the update I was able to play the very same files without a problem. Is anybody experiencing the same?
Great firmware upgrade but nokia is still missing some basic features found on less expensive phones, for example: 1.Using the camera flash as a flashlight, usb charging.
Posted 13 Dec 2007 at 2:33 am ¶I bought this n95 in india and the upgrade is still not available for me… Guess i am going back to my SE walkman series phone, next time. Seems like nokia aint interested in its Indian customers……

Posted 13 Dec 2007 at 10:04 am ¶ok, brace yourselves for my stupid question, im totally new to this and would like to find out where to get the latest firmware for my N95 (i live in england, and belive the phone is unlocked), and how i go about installing it.
Posted 13 Dec 2007 at 1:45 pm ¶i suppose i could do with finding out what firmware im currently on, but unsurprisingly, i dont know how to do that either.
my op is o2 if that helps?
@ John Young:
Install the Nokia NSeries PC Suite and you have everything you need to connect your N95 to your PC (pity, but Nokia still does not have the suite for Mac…) as well as the update software to get the firmware upgrades.
Trust this will help you out!
Posted 13 Dec 2007 at 2:59 pm ¶Hmmm… I’ve just downloaded the theme, but the icons aren’t the same and the theme isn’t the same as on your screenshots. Mysterious.
Posted 14 Dec 2007 at 4:26 pm ¶Not really payed attention, but it seems I had an earlier version, simply called “teal 1.2″ and not “dark teal”… Will look up the URL where I got it from…
Posted 14 Dec 2007 at 4:45 pm ¶Hi Jan,
I found the ‘teal 1.2′-Version:
