Scene: Me just sitting down in a 3×3 cabin in a train this morning. Still sleepy, janking out Sennheiser PX 200W Headphones
, unfolding them, putting them on my head. Getting out my N95, plugging in the headphones, hitting the media-menu button and selecting radio…While looking up I noticed 5 heads, abruptly turning away.
Did you ever notice that when you are sitting close to other people, working your phone, people try to follow what you are doing on your phone? Especially teenagers are watching you like: “What you got there? What’ya doing? Are you checking email? Listening to music? Surfing the Web?”
And when you enter the media menu and people notice movements that they do not recognize, the attention is all yours.
Now what do we do?
I am a Mac user (and proud of it) and I know that I tend to exaggerate how good it is when in a position to convince someone of it (aka Mac-Evangelism). But I know this does not only apply to Apple. Whichever device I use and like (in functionality, form or whatever), I will promote that product.
So when it comes down to those prying eyes… I will give them a little show. Tilt the screen a little more their way, take my steps through the menus a bit to slow, neglect the shortcut buttons but go step by step… No, I have no shares in Nokia, but I am not ashamed to say that I do not mind sharing good experiences.
What do you do to “unintentionally” show off your Nokia N95?

Ha ha, good stuff man! I got the same reactions when I bought my N80 a year ago. Now that I just received my N95 on Tuesday, I can’t wait to see how many inquisitive minds turn my way….
Posted 04 Oct 2007 at 9:36 pm ¶Well, reactions on my E61 were a bit more like “What are you doing with that calculator?”, but as soon as they realized i was listening to music, watching The Simpsons via WLAN or UMTS through ORB from my own PC at home on that brilliant 320×240 display, there was just silence - and pure astonishment. Well, these days i know a good bit of these people actually carry an E61, N95 or even E90..

Although I love it when people go “oh wow, is that the n95?”, I try to keep it from being publicly noticed as there’s usually this everpresent fear of being mugged for it.

Posted 07 Oct 2007 at 12:47 pm ¶Hahahaha. Same reaction here. Especially when I am watching a DIVX movie.
Question: how do you put album art on your music albums on your phone? My albums have album art from my PC but can’t seem to make it appear on my N95. Same as with my iTunes I have all the album art appear on my Windows Media Player 11 but not on iTunes.

I was right behind a guy who would not catch my attention for any particular reason until he pulled out his N95 and placed it on this jacket on the table to go through the x-ray machine. I looked at him, pulled mine out of my pocket, smiled and said…”it seems these are all over LA”. He looked at me and smiled and asked me “is this the plum version”? I said yes. It’s almost like the “is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me” comment but it was really funny.

P.S. While I was at Dublin airport a week ago people were eyeing me too when I plugged in the headphones into my N95 and was listening to the local radio and browsing the web…and the media spinner menu does make a good impression.
Posted 11 Oct 2007 at 11:20 pm ¶Yeah, I show off my N95. You wanna mug me for it?
Go on and F**kin try you wipe, you’ll be eatin through a straw ’til past Christmas… Don’cha know all N95 owners are trained as Samurai before being let loose on da streets wiv a piece of kit like that?
(and you can lay off my A2DP headset too)
