Gull has announced plans to open its first South Island station by July, with a long-term plan to cover the whole island. A new unmanned station at Maheno on State Highway 1 south of Oamaru will be the first of six South Island stations discount fuel retailer Gull plans to open within the next two years.
Gull New Zealand General Manager Dave Bodger said the chain had sites ready for development in Canterbury including Christchurch, with opportunities for more across the South Island. He said Gull recently secured a supply from a Timaru Port fuel terminal to be operated by Timaru Oil Services.
South Islanders have been paying more for fuel compared to North Islanders and it is expected that the arrival of Gull will help bring prices down.
